Adding Google Analytics to Your Site

Want to track how people are using your website? No problem! Just head to Settings > SEO > Tracking Scripts in your SiteWrench admin area. This is where you’ll paste the Google Analytics HTML script you received when you set up your Analytics account.

Once added, Google will start tracking your site's traffic and give you detailed reports you can view anytime at google.com/analytics. Just make sure you're using a Gmail or Google Workspace (formerly Google Apps) account—Google requires it to access your reports.

📌 Important Tip:
Google may tell you to insert the tracking code on every page of your site—but don’t worry about doing that manually. Just paste the code once in this settings area and save. We’ll automatically apply it to every page on your site, including system pages.

You can access Google Analytics here to view your site's traffic data.

How do I set up a Google Analytics account?

Step 1: Sign into Google

Go to https://analytics.google.com and sign in using a Gmail or Google Workspace account. If you don’t have one, you’ll need to create one first.

Step 2: Create a New Google Analytics Account

Once signed in:

  1. Click Start Measuring.

  2. Give your account a name (e.g., your organization or website name).

  3. Choose your data-sharing preferences and click Next.

Step 3: Set Up a Property

A property is essentially your website or app.

  1. Enter a Property Name (e.g., "My Website").

  2. Select your reporting time zone and currency.

  3. Click Next, then choose your business industry and size (optional).

  4. Choose how you intend to use Google Analytics and click Create.

Accept the terms and conditions to proceed.

Step 4: Choose a Platform to Measure

Google will ask what you want to measure:

  • Choose Web (for a website)

  • Enter your website URL and name the stream (e.g., "Main Website")

Click Create Stream.

Step 5: Get Your Tracking Code

Once your stream is created, you’ll be given a Global Site Tag (gtag.js)—a snippet of HTML code.

Copy this code. You’ll need it for the next step.

Step 6: Add the Code to Your SiteWrench Site

  1. In your SiteWrench admin, go to Settings > SEO > Tracking Scripts.

  2. Paste the entire code into the field provided.

  3. Click Save.

That’s it! You’re all set. The code will be added to every page of your site automatically, so you don’t need to insert it manually.

Step 7: Start Tracking

Give Google some time to start collecting data (usually within a few hours). After that, head back to Google Analytics to view your traffic reports.

Tips & Notes

  • All analytics data must be viewed directly in your Google Analytics account. SiteWrench does not store or display this data.

  • Make sure only one Analytics code is installed to avoid double-counting.

  • If you’re using Google Analytics 4 (GA4), the tracking interface and reports will look different from older versions.

  • You can set up additional features like Events, Conversions, and Goals to get even deeper insights.

Not sure if your site is already connected to a GA4 account? No worries—just submit a support ticket, and our team will be happy to help!
